My Short Inaugural Speech

Saturday, July 9, 2005

Tonight marks a special beginning and an end - an end of a successful year and a beginning of a hopeful one. Let us acknowledge the efforts made by our outgoing president and commend him for a job well done. RY 2004-2005 with the theme “Celebrate Rotary” was an inspiring and turning point for most of the Rotarians. Despite the melodrama in our lives, in the end, everyone cheered, everyone laughed and everybody smiled. It was a blessed year and each one was a blessing to everyone. Congratulations to Immediate Past President Boy.<!–[endif]–>

As I inherit this club’s presidency, I feel honored and humbled by the challenge that is presented to me. However, I am very much eager to begin this new year and assure to serve you to the best of my abilities.

I envision a club that would have more of our Rotarians coming back to their roots. And as we welcome them back, may we always remember to work hand in hand, because that is what the Rotary Club of Zamboanga City East is all about, La Unidad. In Unity there is strength, and hopefully, we can all be united in sharing this one vision to share more of our time, and ourselves, and gain that special feeling of fulfillment from doing something good.

With the help of my fellow officers and their sincere commitment this year, we will strive to do what is most essential to the club and to Rotary’s mission. In particular, we will focus our energies toward:

Effective Environment Protection Projects
Sustainable Inter-Membership Development Activities
Informative Public Image Projects
Continuing Leadership Activities for the Youth
Livelihood Literacy For the Community
And to be better involved in programs of the Rotary Foundation.

We are all professionals that are successful in our significant fields. Let us use our abilities and continue to channel it into our community. Ralph Waldo Emerson once described, “To be successful is knowing that a life has breathed easier because you lived.” And so I leave you, my fellow Rotarians and incoming members, with this thought. I humbly accept this designation. Thank you and enjoy the rest of the evening.
